The absorbency area varies for men and women. For men, the front of the underwear is more absorbent, for women, the bottom part of the underwear is more absorbent. Men's underwear and diapers also have more space in the front.

Pull-ups are either unisex or made specifically for men or women. The most significant difference how far up the front the absorbent material covers. The female version are usually made to look more like panties with colors and printed decorations.

The male versions are usually gray and simulate a male brief in style. Unisex pull-ups are usually white and fuller cut and often provide better protection against leas as they are meant to be utilitarian. The tabbed briefs, which are truly adult diapers, are always unisex. They come in various absorbencies with many meant for nighttime use only as they are thick and bulky.

There are three basic types of disposable incontinence products:pads, pull-ups and tabbed briefs(diapers). Pads are almost exclusively used by women they can be used inside snug fitting panties and cover the vulva and absorb leaks quite well.

 

 

IS THE
PATIENT MOBILE ?

For patients with signifyingly limited mobility and/or those who are bedridden we recommend tabbed briefs(diapers) rather than pull-ups or underwear.. Not only are brief thicker and more absorbent than pull-ups or underwear, they are also easier to put on and take off the user by another caregiver. FINDING THE RIGHT FIT

When buying underwear or adult diapers, finding the right fit is key. If a product is too small, you may experience skin irritation, and if a product is too large, it may result in leaks. To ensure the best fir and determine the correct sized product, the hip and waist size of users must be first be measure. 

All the diapers are clearly labelled with size ranges in inches.
The best way to measure properly is:

  • Measure the width across the widest part of your abdomen. This should be at or just below your belly button. Be sure to record this number.

  • Next, measure the widest part of your hips and record this measurement.

  • The larger of these two measurements will determine your adult diaper size.

  • As these are just guidelines, be sure t take into consideration weight, height and thigh circumference.

Using Height & Weight  
Here is the example of incontinence size charts  may seem like complex, difficult-to-follow diagrams, but most charts rely om two simple measurements: height and weight. Once you have those ,size charts are easily navigated. For example, let's explore the Prevail Breezer 360 size chart below.

Like most size charts, the height is numbered on the left of the graph, and weight is numbered on the top of the graph.

Identify where your height and weight appear on the graph, and mark the point where the column and the row meet. Depending on what sizes are available for the brand you are looking at, the intersection of the two measurements will be your size. In this case, if your height is 175 cm or 5 ft. 9 inches and your weight is 77 kg or 150 pounds, your size is Size 2 or medium in some cases.

ARE YOU TAKING ANY MEDICATION

When deciding on a product, you should also consider if you have other gastrointestinal conditions that may make you urinate or defecate more frequently. You may also be taking medication that affect your urination or bowel movements.

If the user experiences frequent bowel movements, we recommend low absorbency and cheap diapers as they must be changed frequently. However, if the user only urinates more frequently, we recommend higher absorbency diapers.

DO YOU HAVE A CAREGIVER ?

For users supported by a caregiver who can assist in regular and frequent diaper changes, we recommend lower absorbency, tabbed diapers. As diapers will be changed often, a higher absorbency diaper will unnecessarily add to the cost.
For users without a caregiver who will change diapers once or twice a day, we recommend a high absorbency diaper and supplemented with an additional pad.
